COMMISSIONED ART

Tish was born and raised in St. John's, but her roots go back to Ireland and the northeast coast of Newfoundland. Carefree summers of youth spent roaming the landscape of Twillingate opened her eyes, ears and heart to the beauty of nature. The rocks, the sea, the sky, the changing weather and the interplay of light on these elements stirred a creative urge within her.
Tish's creativity blossomed early, nurtured by the influence of family: fishermen, wood workers, boat builders, quilters, musicians and storytellers. Attempting to capture on paper the images she saw, Tish started with pencils and crayons, progressed to pen and ink, then to water colours, acrylics, pastels and calligraphy. Tish's explanation for not working in oils is, "I don't have the patience to watch it dry." By contrast, patience abounds when she's observing nature. She says, "I can sit by the ocean for hours and do absolutely nothing but stare, hypnotized by her colours and music."
Tish is past treasurer and current member of the Art Association of Newfoundland and Labrador. She is grateful for having studied under international and local artists but, to a large extent, is self taught, drawing her inspiration from the natural beauty and culture of place, the place she calls home, Newfoundland.
